Chennai boasts of a total income of 12,485.92 crores which is a 10.9% of the total income of Tamil Nadu.The City is the base of automobile,software,hardware manufacturing,health and financila Industries.

Chennai’s economy is expected to increase to around $150 billion from the current $45 billion by 2025. Infrastructure would lead the growth, according to a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) study.

Chennai is called the textile hub of South India with large number of garment manufacture industries located in the Ambattur-Padi industrial zone in the northern suburbs of the city. The city also boasts of leather apparel and accessory industry. Special Economic Zones for apparel manufacture and footwear are under construction in the southern suburbs of the city. Chennai is home to the Tamil film industry which is second only to Mumbai film industry.

The City is also an hub for elctronics manufacturing where we can find multinational companies like Nokia,Dell,Motorola,Samsung,Flextronics,foxconn etc.The Automobile industries contribute a lot to the economy of chennai which includes the companies like Hyundai,Ford,TVS Group,Ashok Leyland,Mitsubishi,BMW,Nissan Renault,TI Cycles of India,Royal Enfield etc.

Chennai is also home to three large national banks and many state level co-operative banks. Several large financial and insurance companies have their headquarters in Chennai. Back office operations of many major banks are located in the city.
