Marina Beach

The Marina Beach is 12 km long shoreline situated in the city of Chennai.It starts from fort st.George all the way to mahabalipuram.It flows along the Bay of Bengal and part of the Indian Ocean.

This is the second longest beach in the world.The Marina Beach is the most visited place by the people of chennai.Alongh the roadside are the statues of the leaders like Mahatma Gandhi,Thiruvalluvar,Thanthai Peiyar and also the statue of the legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan was installed recently.It is here the former chief ministers Annadurai, M.G.R(M.G.Ramachandran) were buried. The Marina beach hosts a swimming pool,an aquarium and a skatiing ground.

The Southern end of the beach is marked by a Light House, which provides a panoramic view of the city.The beach is popular for its food stalls and hawkers,many people in the evening prefer this place for its soothing breeze.A best place to hang out with friends with little cost.Swimming and Bathing is not allowed because no lifeguards are stationed here. At both ends of the beach the fisherman's have set up their colonies.In the middle 20th centurythe beach water was pollted by plastic bags,human wastes,and other pollutants and thus destroying the beaty of the beach,efforts are being taken to clean up the beach.The bottom line is 'Dont leave chennai without visiting the Marina Beach and if you do you will regret one day'.

Covelong Beach

The beach is now a luxury resort,the beach has a fort built by Nawaab Of Carnatic.Covelong beach is one of the few places in the East Coast where wind surfing takes place.

Moreover, a lot of fishing activity also takes place on the Covelong Beach, which is a treat for the eyes in such a serene setting. As per the historical background of the place, it was once the port of the Nawabs of the Carnatic. It is said that Saadat Ali, Nawab of Carnatic, built the ancient port of Covelong. However, with fast pacing developmental activities, the Covelong Beach has become a top beach resort in the state of Tamil Nadu.

It is specially a must visit site for all the adventure seekers, who love to stay on roll. The beach provides a plethora of water sport activities, like wind surfing, swimming, etc. Apart from this, there is an ancient fort in the vicinity of Covelong Beach, which serves as a memoir of the yester years. To enrich your travel experience further, it is dotted with other historical monuments like churches and mosques. The ancient Catholic Church is a must visit place on the beach.

Elliot Beach

Elliot's Beach is spread along the coast down south from Marina. It is also the night beach for Chennai youth. This beach is comparatively quieter and an ideal place to go sea bathing. It is located near Besant Nagar.

The Ashtalakshmi Temple is around 20 years old and has modern style architecture. It is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and appears different from the rest of the Temples in South India. On the other hand, Velanganni Church is more of a pilgrim place for the Christians. The structure is smaller than the one at Velanganni. In addition, there is the Schmidt Memorial, which is dedicated to a Dutch sailor, who lost his life while saving a drowning fellow. It is one of the most notable landmarks on the famous beach.

It is also the favorite destination of foreign tourists for enjoying sun bath. Elliot's Beach offers very subtle activity, with only few food joints and restaurants. You can relish the mouth watering South Indian snacks and pamper your taste buds, here. Apart from this, there are some religious and historical monuments, to be explored, to add to your adventure.
